Why you do not let a vote for SB 872 ? This is not about the bill, it is about

We
The

ORLANDO SENTINEL.
The bills include HB 675, sponsored by Rep. Larry Metz, R-Yalaha, which is designed to punish so-called “sanctuary” cities that do not cooperate with federal officials attempting to deport illegal immigrants. The attorney general would be authorized to file civil actions to halt sanctuary policies and impose fines of up to $5,000 per day on cities that have “written or unwritten” sanctuary policies.
AMERICA CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION (ACLU)
We write in opposition to SB 872 and HB 675 which outlaws so-called “sanctuary” policies and forces each and every Florida county and municipality to expend maximal local resources to enforce federal immigration law. The bill requires localities to comply with all immigration-related requests by the federal government, including “detainer” requests to imprison someone without the judicial determination of probable cause required under the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution. Entities may be fined up to $5,000 for every day they do not fulfill every immigration request made of them and will be perpetually and civilly liable for any bad acts committed by someone released by local law enforcement despite a detainer request. Local agencies will not be reimbursed for the cost of detaining these individuals and will continue to be liable in federal court for constitutional violations. In effect, law enforcement will be conscripted to prioritize immigration enforcement over any local needs to address crime or keep communities safe and will be forced to pick up the bill for it too.
ACLUFL ORG.
The publication of the report comes hours before the Florida House of Representatives is scheduled to debate HB 675, which would force local law enforcement agencies to honor ICE detainers under threat of serious financial and legal penalties. Under HB 675 and its Senate companion SB 872, local police agencies may be fined up to $5,000 for every day they do not fulfill every immigration request made of them and will be perpetually civilly liable for any future negligent acts committed by someone released by local enforcement if ICE put out a detainer request for them.
FLORIDA IMMIGRANT COALITION
Today, several anti-immigrant bills were introduced in Florida’s legislature. House Bill 675 introduced by Rep. Larry Metz (Republican-Groveland), would be an unfunded mandate to counties and cities to enforce federal immigration laws. Similar to the bill expected to be filed by Senator Aaron Bean (Republican-Jacksonville), it would also allow the attorney general and state attorneys to take action against local governments, including civil penalties up to $5,000 for each day cities and counties do not enforce the policy to collaborate with federal immigration law enforcement, which would increase the number of immigrants detained and deported. - See more at: https://floridaimmigrant.org/?press_releases=florida-lawmakers-promote-anti-immigrant-legislations#sthash.I4HUmPBM.dpuf

WHEREAS, SB 872 and HB 675 would permit the Florida Attorney General or applicable state attorney to institute proceedings in circuit court to enjoin a law enforcement agency or local government entity found to be in violation and impose fines of at least $1,000, but not more than $5,000, for each day that the policy or practice was found to be in effect before the injunction was granted;

Sanctuary Policies Across the U.S. (2013)
Sanctuary Policies Across the U.S. details resolutions, ordinances, executive actions and other initiatives that now exist in 103 cities, towns and counties across 33 states and the District of Columbia. This study is the first and only comprehensive compilation of sanctuary policies and shows how non-enforcement — and outright defiance of immigration law which is expressly prohibited by federal law — is a dangerous trend sweeping the country.
