Former Hallandale resident showed true fighting spirit

Emy Botet was 14 when her father died. Sitting together in the house with her grandmother, parents and younger brother Fredy, she heard men yelling outside.
"Sal para afuera, Botet! Si no sales, te matamos a la familia!" (Come out, or we'll kill your family!)
Botet's father told his wife and children to hide under the bed. A firefight ensued between the men and her father, until he shot himself in the heart, refusing to be taken alive by the militiamen.....CONTINUE

LA HISTORIA DEL 10 DE MARZO DE 1952 (  CLICK PARA VER LAS 16 PAGINAS

Botet, a lawyer, was a known regime opponent. As the Bay of Pigs invasion started, a large rabid mob attacked Botet's house with rocks and bullets while he was home with his wife and two young children. They were yelling for him to come out, threatening to drag him through the streets. Botet refused to come out of the house and committed suicide rather than face death by the mob.
His brother and nephew, both doctors, identified the body at the medical examiner´s office and verified that he had only one shot to the heart that appeared self-inflicted and no other injuries or bruises. He left a wife, a son, age 10, and a daughter, age 14.
